The Opportunity

Some of the most valuable company data lives in conversations — be it live meetings or over video calls. LLMs have transformed how we transcribe and analyze this data, but capturing the audio/video, transcripts, speaker timelines, and metadata at the source remains a major challenge. Traditional approaches are weighed down by complex integrations, scaling issues, and accuracy gaps. And standing up this infrastructure is messy and brittle, requiring server scaling, wiring into every video platform, speaker diarization, and numerous other hurdles.

While teams can build these systems themselves, it’s rarely worth it. Managing infrastructure isn’t most companies’ core business, and the engineering hours are better spent on the product features that actually set them apart. Further, while video conferencing platforms like Google Meet, Teams, and Zoom continue to innovate, they remain notoriously difficult to integrate with. A universal platform that is agnostic to where the conversation occurs provides far greater long-term value. There are many companies chasing the promise of conversational intelligence, but the hardest problem is still the first one: getting the data out.

That’s the problem Recall.ai was built to solve.

The Solution

Recall.ai is revolutionizing the conversational intelligence landscape with a comprehensive suite of APIs and SDKs designed to capture and process meeting data seamlessly. It enables fast, secure, and scalable meeting intelligence infrastructure, eliminating the need for organizations to build and maintain their own recording systems. Their platform includes:

  • Meeting Bot APIs: Ideal for recording virtual meetings, providing explicit recording consent notifications, and building interactive meeting agents.
  • Desktop Recording SDKs: Suitable for recording both virtual and in-person meetings, offering a recording experience without external bots, and integrating with existing desktop applications.

Recall.ai’s goal is to make extracting and processing this data extremely easy. Beyond recording, Recall.ai also supports calendar integration, storage, and playback — allowing developers to embed scheduling and replay into their workflows. By leveraging these tools, developers can access over 100 pieces of meeting data through Recall.ai’s API. Behind the scenes, Recall.ai runs custom pipelines that process 3 TB/s of raw video and launch 8M EC2 instances monthly, ensuring transcripts and metadata are delivered within seconds of a meeting ending.

Why We’re Backing Recall.ai

We’re excited to back Recall.ai as a foundational enabler for the expanding wave of AI applications built on voice and conversational data. Companies like Datadog, Rippling, Mindtickle, and Affinity already rely on Recall.ai as a core part of their infrastructure, powering diverse AI applications — from health scribing to GTM tooling — to unlock insights from conversations and meeting data. Customers are realizing strong ROI by eliminating the engineering burden of building and maintaining recording infrastructure, while also enabling new use cases such as real-time transcript insights or live meeting bot agents.

Founders David Gu and Amanda Zhu have first-hand experience with the pain point they’re addressing. After building Perfect Recall, a general purpose AI meeting assistant, the duo realized the infrastructure needed to support these conversational AI / voice AI applications was incredibly difficult to build — so they set out to solve the problem for the entire ecosystem with Recall.ai. As we got to know the team, we came away impressed by their ability to execute on product development and their dedication to delivering value to customers. Their long-term vision is just as compelling: to establish Recall.ai as the cloud platform for conversational data.

What’s Ahead?

We’re thrilled to partner with David and Amanda as they expand Recall.ai to meet customers wherever their conversations take place. Alongside the new Desktop Recording SDK, Recall.ai is launching Mobile Recording support soon. We’ve been impressed by the range of applications that Recall.ai enables and are excited for what’s to come as they work to expand their offerings.

We’re also proud to be backing Recall.ai alongside Bessemer Venture Partners, Hubspot Ventures, Ridge Ventures, YCombinator, RTP Ventures, as well as notable angels including Y Combinator founder Paul Graham, Docker founder Solomon Hykes, Twitch founder Michael Siebel, and Intercom founder Eoghan McCabe.
